opinions for this LCD TV?
Tuesday, January 26th, 2010 | Author:

I was considering on buying a Toshiba LCD TV, specifically this one listed on the costco website:

http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?whse=BC&topnav=&prodid=11274215&ec=BC-EC877-CatHome&pos=15&lang=en-US

Can anyone please answer the following questions I have?
1.) Do you reckon this is a excellent deal?
2.) How well does Toshiba rank in LCD TVs?
3.)Are their LCD TVs any excellent?
4.) Do their LCD TVs have many problems like picture, audio, etc. or do they generate these problems problems easily?
5.) How long do they generally last without problems?
6.) What are some of your experiences with Toshiba LCDs?

That is a nice TV that you would probably be pleased with. It’s 1080p which is excellent and has a modern glossy black end. The 47" Regza’s picture in 720p, 1080i and 1080p is outstanding, with rich color and reasonably deep blacks for an LCD. Controls are intuitive and allow for quick adjustment among picture modes and channel favorites. The HL series does lack the networking capabilities found in the LX (Cinema Series) models. With the networking you can get updates on the firmware, view video and pics over the network, listen to music, and even send your TV an email telling it to record shows through the i-Link IR send through.

1. That is a excellent deal, but you could get slightly better deal at Newegg (after tax, with free shipping). BB and CC sell it for $1600+

2. Toshiba is middle of the pack in terms of both repairs and quality. Pioneer and Panasonic are usually regarded as the best, but their price often reflects that sentiment.

3. see 2

4. Sound is not as robust on this TV, so you may want to hook up to surround sound. If you notice buzzing in the audio or excessive broken pixels when you first turn it on, take it back

5. You should get 50,000+ hours of use out of your show, perhaps more if you replace the backlighting when it wears out.

6. They get decent reviews. If you are pleased with the image in the store, you will likely be pleased in your home.

Excellent luck!

You have any Best BUY stores over there?

Personally I just google the stores 1st, find the TV I want, then search the available stores with online websites for the best price, and then head to the store.

I am thinking about buying a plasma tv. I have in mind a samsung 50" tv that is on sale at my local department store for $1500. Is this a excellent deal or are there better models out there?

The other day I went and looked at a 1080p Panasonic and a 720p Samsung. I adjusted some of the settings and overall I still like the Samsung’s picture more. Never thought I would say I liked the picture of a 720p over a 1080p.

TV experts: are LG HDTVs good?

I found an incredible deal (32′ Flatscreen HDTV LG) for $449.99. Is it worth it? I’m looking for a smaller HDTV for my room that I can play my Xbox 360 on.

Also, what about Insignia?

LG is a middle-of-the-road brand. Not the best, but still a pretty excellent brand.
Insignia is more towards the low end of the spectrum.

Seems like rear projection gets you the most in terms of size for the money but is it worth it?

Probably *after* the Superbowl. Before the SB, there will be lots of people keen to upgrade their TVs, so the retailers will be able to sell at a excellent price. After the SB, the huge incentive to upgrade will be gone, so retailers will have to drop prices to attract people into the stores.
