PlayStation 3 to Offer Movie Downloads?
Saturday, January 16th, 2010 | Author:

Sony’s PlayStation 3 wants to be more than just a gaming device: it’s plotting to introduce a film and TV show download service. In this episode, we look at how PS3′s digital media maneuver could compete with Apple’s iTunes and Xbox 360′s Live service.

Digital Journal — You can’t go a week without a next-gen gaming console trying to outfox its competitors. This time, Sony is playing catch-up: it has been reported the company will introduce a video download service via its PlayStation Network that will allow PlayStation 3 owners to buy full movies and TV shows. Sony is a few years late in the game, because Xbox 360 Live and Apple iTunes already offer similar download programs.

According to the L.A. Times, who broke the tale, Sony is negotiating licensing deals with studios to bring the video download service to the PS3 as early as the summer 2008.

There’s excellent reason to believe this monumental project is more than just a rumour. Sony’s Peter Dille wrote on the PlayStation blog: “It’s already been confirmed that we’ll be offering a video service for PS3 in a way that separates the service from others you’ve seen or used. Ultimately the goal of the PlayStation Network service will be to break through the overwhelming clutter of digital media to give you the TV, movies and gaming content you want.”

Sony PlayStation 3 attempting to gain ground on the 360 and Nintendo’s Wii — more than 10.5 million PS3s have been sold worldwide since its launch in 2006. And the console’s Blu-ray technology is the hands-down winner when it comes to next-generation DVD viewing.

But can its leap into downloadable films and TV shows give Sony the boost it desperately needs?

In this episode of Digital Journal TV, editors Chris Hogg and David Silverberg discuss the pros and cons of Sony’s upcoming video download service. Learn how PS3′s digital media focus could shake up the industry, and find out how it stacks up to Apple’s iTunes and Xbox 360′s Live reputable offerings.

Launch of Ekta Kapoors 2 new shows
Sunday, November 29th, 2009 | Author:

After making some well loved saas-bahu fiction shows, Ekta Kapoor has went on to real life tales.

She has made a conscious go from the ostentatious drawing rooms and lavish bungalows to villages, slums and traffic signals. The focus is on real people, even as Ekta gears up for her two prime time shows on Sony TV — Bayttaab Dil Kee Tamanna Hai and Pyaar Ka Bandhan. Both the shows are very different. One is dark, harsh and real. The other has the capacity to tug your heart strings.

There was a time when Ektas shows always had protagonists who were very positive and nearly perfect. But this time its the opposite. The protagonist in Bayttaab is far from perfect; in fact she is projected as the first anti-heroine of tellyland. Bayttaabs protagonist is determined to fight all odds to fulfill her dream, says Ekta adding, Its a show that deals with relationships. It is when you life is stuck between survival and reality.

She calls it a modern day Deewar. It can be termed as the tale of three sisters who struggle to achieve their goals, but in their own way. This is what will differentiate them from each other. One believes there is no shortcut to success while another believes that there is only a small cut. The tale also shows the ambitions of these three sisters and their journey for the same, she says.

In the case of Pyaar Ka Bandhan, theres a mix of emotions and drama. Its the tale of a mother who is ill and has her four kids adopted by different families. This show can be termed as a retro type for Balaji, which is a mixture of films like Waqt and Yaadon Ki Baarat, says Ekta.

Bayttaab… goes on air on October 6 while Pyaar Ka Bandhan starts on October 7.
